HEART, a 501(c)3 non-profit providing visual arts, music, and performing arts mentorships and community engagement for adults with special needs who want to grow and develop as artists, will host Rare Bird Workshop Show on Friday, December 6th at 7 pm.

Rare Bird is an original musical drama that follows John Seeker, an American public radio personality best known as the host and producer of the podcast “This Insane World.” Though Seeker is successful in his career, he wrestles with feelings of loneliness and not belonging. After his parent’s deaths, Seeker, now 36 years old, learns that he was adopted and is given a mysterious package that his biological mother had left for him. Seeker, for the first time in his life, turns the focus on his own story and sets out in search of his biological mother and his sense of belonging.

Attendees will witness a culmination of a 5-month long workshop of writing and rehearsing Rare Bird with 24 adult artists with special needs and 20 community artist mentors. These workshop shows happen each year in December and are a crucial step in the development of HEART’s original musicals. These shows allow the organization to work out kinks.

“At HEART, we understand that working together with others and creating something meaningful for the community is a privilege,” Farrah Hoffmire, Founding Director of HEART, said. “We will continue to create powerful, inclusive art that opens and engages the hearts of the community. In the end, love is the greatest art that comes from this creative family that is HEART. The audience is just as privileged as we are to be a part of it all.”

The workshop show will be held at BoomTown, 1505 King Street Extension.
