Press Release

Helena Fox Fine Art this week announced two evenings with artist Mary Erickson and The Center for the Birds of Prey. A percentage of proceeds from the sales of paintings painted especially for this show will be given to the Avian Conservation Center in Awendaw. A preview of the show and an artist talk will take place at the business on Thursday, December 5th, 2019 from 5 pm to 8 pm. Mary Erickson will begin her talk at 6:15 pm.

Both events are free and open to the public, but there is limited space for the Thursday evening presentation, so RSVP is recommended.

Erickson’s second solo exhibit at Helena Fox Fine Art continues to explore her interest in birds, not only from a painter’s point of view, but also from that of a conservationist. “I record what I see, and I am passionate about the scenes I can immortalize on canvas. That is my work’s importance,” the artist reveals. Several new paintings, and sketches, will be on view featuring birds and their environs. Members of the staff at the Avian Conservation Center in Awendaw, S.C. will be on hand Thursday night for the preview and Mary’s presentation. A percentage of the sales from Mary Erickson’s new work for the show will go to the center for their continuing good works.

A lifelong conservationist, Mary’s 39 acre residence in North Carolina is slated to be left as an artist retreat and bird sanctuary. It is listed on the North Carolina Birding Trail, and can be seen at www.HighRidgeGardens.org. Mary has served on the board of Big Brothers / Big Sisters, and as an advisor to several national plein air events, and is available for lectures on conservation and avian art. Erickson is the founder and organizer of The Nanatuck Group. In the summer she rents a large house in Port Clyde, Maine and shares the experience with other professional artists. Hosting up to 60 artists each summer, daily painting excursions and art talks into the night typify the weeks into early September.

Mary is a founding member of SPAA (Southern Plein Air Artists) and a member of The Group of Eight, and the Florida Four, all Southern-based alliances that are intent on recording the scenery of the rapidly vanishing natural southern landscape. She is a Signature Member of the American Society of Marine Painters (ASMA). Memberships also include the Oil Painters of America and the American Impressionist Society.
