Charleston native and winemaker Nathan DeCamps this month launches Innate Wines in South Carolina with a series of events throughout the state.

DeCamps became fascinated with wine and fermentation science at an early age. As a young boy, he was introduced to muscadine and scuppernong grape growing and homemade winemaking at his family’s home and farm – MD Farms in rural South Carolina.

After Hurricane Hugo, he quickly learned the ins and outs of replanting and rebuilding a crop farm. Side-by-side with his father, DeCamps planted plums, nectarines, peaches, cherries, almonds, apricots, pears, Asian apples, oranges, figs, and more. They planted over 100 different types of apples alone. They have also planted large-scale crops such as cotton, soybeans, and corn.

After attending Furman University, The College of Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, his love for wine grew and he spent most of his free time studying and tasting it in this great city. He decided after four years that becoming a doctor was not what he wanted to pursue and decided to move to Napa Valley where he lived and worked for several years. Living on the Silverado Trail in Rutherford, he was immersed in world-class grape growing and winemaking. He interned and volunteered at several wineries including a paid position at Darioush Winery, to learn all he could about the intricacies of vineyards, the cellar, and the sales and hospitality aspects of the business.

This love and dedication to learning the craft, led Nathan to become a winemaker. Now in Paso Robles, he has launched his company – Innate Wines.

He just launched the wines in South Carolina and is distributed by Grassroots Wine. To kick-off the launch, Innate Wines is hosting a number of events:
