Bucs hold off second-half Camels run in Bucs’ 41-31 win on Senior Day

Charleston Southern utilized four Jack Chambers touchdown passes, three to Kameron Brown, and a solid defensive effort held off a late Campbell second-half rally as the Buccaneers topped the Camels on Senior Day at Buccaneer Field, 41-31.
CSU (6-6, 4-2 Big South) raced out to the quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter thanks to a pair of Chambers touchdown passes to Demetrius Jones and Brown. Campbell (6-6, 3-3 Big South) rallied back with a trio of scores in the third quarter with Williamsfinding the end zone twice on the ground to cut the Bucs’ lead down to 34-31.
Chambers went back to Brown in the fourth quarter with a fade into the back of the end zone for the four-yard score to put CSU ahead 41-31 with 9:18 to play. Dennis Fisher secured the CSU win with a late interception on Campbell’s final drive to closeout the Bucs win.
Chambers paced the Bucs after going 17-of-29 through the air for 217 yards and four touchdown passes. Brown finished with three catches for 32 yards and a trio of touchdown receptions, while Garris Schwarting hauled in five catches for 124 yards. KendrickBell added his second consecutive 100-yard rushing effort with 123 carries on 22 yards.
Hajj Malik-Williams’ efforts led Campbell on the day as the freshman quarterback finished with 144 passing yards and a touchdown, while adding 74 rushing yards and two more scores on the ground. Jalen Kelsey hauled in a team-high five catches for 75 yards.
Nick Salley paced CSU’s defensive efforts with eight tackles and 2.5 tackles for loss. Shaundre Mims added his Big South-leading 10th sack, while Anton Williams added a sack and tackle for loss.
Campbell’s Justice Galloway-Velasquez lead all players with 15 tackles, while Darion Slade added 12 tackles in the loss.
