SC Historical Society Announces 2020 Winter Lecture Series

The South Carolina Historical Society’s upcoming Winter Lecture Series will take place on Tuesday evenings from February 4th to February 25th at the First Baptist Church in downtown Charleston. Each lecture is from 6 pm to 7 pm.

For more than a decade, the Historical Society has hosted this series to showcase fascinating topics about the history of South Carolina, and each lecture is delivered by an accredited historian, professor, or expert from around the state.

The 2020 lecture lineup includes:

  • Feb. 4: Patrick McCawley, South Carolina Department of Archives and History, “The Revolution of 1719”
  • Feb. 11: Bill Davies, Attorney and Historian, “South Carolina’s Lost Hundred Years”
  • Feb. 18: Dr. Richard Porcher, Citadel Professor and Conservationist, “Silk, Rice, Indigo, and Sea Island Cotton; Crops that made the Wealth of the Early Lowcountry”
  • Feb. 25: Dr. Larry Rowland, Distinguished Professor Emeritus of History for the University of South Carolina Beaufort, “The Most Dangerous and Consequential War in Colonial American History”
