TEDxCharleston: “CASCADES” Event Set for April 1st
TEDxCharleston will host its 7th annual event, CASCADES, on Wednesday, April 1st, 2020 at the Charleston Music Hall. On Tuesday, February 4th, 2020, speakers will be announced and tickets will go on sale at $55 per ticket. In previous years, tickets have sold out in less than four hours, so mark your calendar.
The event will run from 12:30 pm to 5 pm, and includes a lively after-party reception, including food and libations from local restaurants, from 5 to 7 pm at the Charleston Museum.
For 2020, the event time will shift and lunch will not be included. The content and length of the program will remain the same; 17 to 19 presenters with topics and entertainment geared to inspire, influence, and engage event attendees and the Charleston community. According to organizers, this year’s theme, CASCADES, “will be a showcase of ideas that trigger force and movement within the Charleston community and beyond.”
The new event time results in a lower ticket price at $55 per ticket and provides more opportunities for individuals to attend, according to event organizers.
“By not having lunch, there is less of a time commitment and a lower ticket price, which we feel will give individuals who have not been to TEDxCharleston the opportunity to attend,” Edith Howle, curator of TEDxCharleston, said. “This is our first time hosting the event within a five-hour time frame, so we’re excited to get the community’s feedback.”
These changes are also a part of TEDxCharleston’s mission of bettering the event’s carbon footprint. With no lunch on Marion Square, this limits plastic water bottle usage for the 1,000+ attendees, which has been a major concern among organizers. There will also be no printed programs; programs will be online only. For the after party, TEDxCharleston will utilize only compostable materials, elevating the food and beverage compost program that was introduced in 2019.
