Charleston Digital Hub’s 2nd Annual Public Hackathon to Focus on Climate Change Solutions
Booz Allen’s Charleston Digital Hub invites the community to attend the second annual public Hackathon on Saturday, March 7th. Doors will open for check-in starting at 8 am with the event officially kicking off at 9 am and ending at 9 pm.
The theme for this year’s event will be focused on climate change. Over the next 10 years, the world must tackle difficult issues resulting from climate change, including rising sea levels and temperatures, air pollution, increased hurricane intensity, and the necessity of migrating to alternative energy sources. The goal for this year’s Hackathon is to directly tackle these problems by kicking off the decade with new solutions for climate change.
This event will be a full-day challenge in which teams (3-6 people on each) will work together to make a better tomorrow. This year, the event will be split into three competition tracks, with prizes awarded to the top two teams within each track. The three tracks include:
- Professional and Graduate Track
- Undergraduate and Bootcamp Track
- Freestyle Track
Teams will be asked to select the competition track that best aligns with their skills and interests during registration. Organizers will provide you with a rubric that the judges will use to score each team’s project and will have a winner and runner-up crowned for each of the three tracks. Organizers will also be contributing to a charitable grant to a climate-action focused nonprofit chosen by the team who takes home the “best in show” crown.
The Hackathon is fully catered, providing breakfast, lunch, and dinner, as well as snacks and drinks throughout the day. All they need for you to bring is a government-issued form of identification, a WiFi-capable laptop (including chargers/peripherals).
