Winemaker Nathan Decamps of Innate Wines to Host Wine Tasting at Vintage Lounge

Published

on

Lowcountry native Nathan DeCamps, owner and winemaker of INNATE WINES, is returning to Charleston for a Wine Tasting at Vintage Lounge on Wednesday, February 12th from 6 pm to 8 pm. Guests can purchase a flight of the wine for $10, while Vintage Lounge Wine Club Members can enjoy the offerings complimentary.

The event will take place on the back patio and local artist Whitney LeJeune will have some of the original artwork from the bottles on display.

DeCamps became fascinated with wine and fermentation science at an early age. As a young boy, he was introduced to muscadine and scuppernong grape growing and homemade winemaking at his family’s home and farm – MD Farms in rural South Carolina.

After Hurricane Hugo, he quickly learned the ins and outs of replanting and rebuilding a crop farm due to the loss of thousands of trees and crops from the storm. Side-by-side with his father, Nathan planted plums, nectarines, peaches, cherries, almonds, apricots, pears, Asian apples, oranges, figs, and more. They planted over 100 different types of apples alone. They have also planted large-scale crops such as cotton, soybeans, and corn. To say Nathan knows and understands agriculture is an understatement.

After attending Furman University, The College of Charleston, and the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, his love for wine grew and he spent most of his free time studying and tasting it in this great city. He decided after four years that becoming a doctor was not what he wanted to pursue and decided to move to Napa Valley where he lived and worked for several years. Living on the Silverado Trail in Rutherford, he was immersed in world-class grape growing and winemaking. He interned and volunteered at several wineries including a paid position at Darioush Winery, to learn all he could about the intricacies of vineyards, the cellar, and the sales and hospitality aspects of the business.
