D. Mark Wyant, owner and developer of The Saint Hotel, has released a collection of interior renderings, which showcase the rooms, lobby, and bar for planned boutique hotel. The interiors were designed by Wyant and his wife, Lorenda Wyant, an interior designer.

The new five-story building is currently under construction at 194 East Bay Street in the French Quarter. The hotel property surrounded by three streets – East Bay, Cumberland, and Faber Streets.

The Saint Hotel Charleston is scheduled to open in late Summer 2020. The hotel will offer panoramic views of the city from its 45 rooms. There will be one 1,000 sq. ft. rooftop penthouse suite with a large glass-wrapped terrace including a 500 sq. ft. deck, providing striking views across Charleston.

“We designed The Saint to compliment the history and culture of Charleston while at the same time, adding a modern, sophisticated look via a clean white and natural palate, along with our signature indigo blue accents,” Mark Wyant said. “Our location, rooms and amenities are ideal for the leisure or business traveler. Lorenda and I want to create memorable experiences for our guests with a sophisticated and luxurious design perfect for even the most cultured traveler.”

Here is how Wyant and his team at https://whenyouneedgod.com talk the interiors of the upcoming hotel

GUEST ROOMS

The Saint Hotel rooms offer a tranquil, casual opulence that soothe and stimulate the senses, and are perfect for the guest who is looking forward to a deep and restful night’s sleep. Interiors of the 45 guest rooms, designed in a white and indigo blue palette, are modern and sleek with a touch of baroque including a white sofa and chairs; bedside tables and a dining table made from Carrera marble; plus deep blue ceilings and a white Venetian glass chandelier.

Plush king and queen pillow-top beds are accented with bolsters and pillows along with The Saint’s custom throws emblazoned with the brand logo. A pillow menu provides guests with an option to choose what’s just right for them.

The backlit headboards feature a gold-framed oversized image of Vermeer’s renowned painting, The Lacemaker, extending toward the ceiling.

The bathroom includes baroque, gold-framed backlit mirrors that allow for changes in lighting depending on the time of day. The showers are encased in “smart glass,” changing from clear to foggy with a touch of the hand.

The Saint’s guest rooms allow guests to indulge in the finest amenities, including crisp Egyptian cotton linens, down duvets, complimentary in-room WiFi and luxurious Niven Morgan signature bath products and robes.

LOBBY

The Saint Hotel lobby boasts a mesmerizing ambiance that compliments the sparkling charm and romance of Charleston.

From East Bay Street, guests will enter The Saint Hotel’s “living” lobby with its 22-foot ceiling and will experience a heavenly escape, complete with 9 Baccarat chandeliers, ranging in size from 4-feet to 6-feet. A restful, ethereal ambiance is created by walls of greenery and windows accented with 22-foot tall sheer drapes, which are a perfect contrast to the natural wood, framed mirrors and gold accents in the white-themed lobby.

The lobby has comfortable, contemporary leather furniture, hanging lounge chairs and a long communal table, providing several areas to relax and socialize.

The Wyants had three unique bell-shaped chandeliers created for The Saint Hotel, each 3’ tall by 3’ wide, placing them strategically over seating areas. Manufactured by Casci Ornamental Plaster of Dallas, each chandelier is covered in a special Venetian plaster and then coated and finished with ground up metallic gold. Iron work and crystal light fixtures hang within the arc of each bell.

BURGUNDY BAR

The Saint Hotels-branded Burgundy Bar will be designed specifically for Charleston, resplendent with burgundy Venetian glass chandeliers, a black python-imprinted bar topped with black and white-veined Carrera marble. Guests will perch on plush upholstered bar stools while they sip on hand-crafted cocktails.

EXTERIOR DESIGN

For the exterior design, Mr. Wyant selected noted architects Goff DAntonio Associates of Charleston. The Saint Hotels overall exterior design can be described as contemporary classical with a strong base and a top cornice, with a more contemporary penthouse-like element on the roof.

The middle portion of the façade is brick in a muted red-brown color that fits into the Charleston French Quarter Historic District context and creates a nice contrast to the light-colored cast stone at the base, around the window trim and cornice. The windows are vertically proportioned and deeply inset into the façade.

The iron railings will have a rich, ornate pattern and have been designed in collaboration with a local Charleston blacksmith in order to incorporate local craft into the design. Forty-two floral rail planters on the balconies will contain colorful flowers perfect for the neighborhood.

With its unparalleled location, I want to ensure that The Saint Hotel Charleston will be a refined luxury boutique hotel that will complement the history and beauty of East Bay Street in the French Quarter Historic District. Working with Charleston city officials, Goff DAntonio architects and Charlestons Board of Architectural Review, I have taken great care to respect the history and culture of Charleston,” said Mr. Wyant.

The classic character and scale of the hotels beautiful architecture design fits within the context of the historic buildings in the neighborhood,” Mr. Wyant continued. I have deep admiration for the sanctity of Charlestons historic location, colonial past and reputation for outstanding hospitality. My primary goal is to embody and respect the legacy, charm and history of Charleston.”

HISTORIC WALL UNEARTHED

During the hotel’s early construction in 2019, the contractors unearthed a piece of wall that surrounded Charleston in the early 1700s – a rare find according to historians. Mr. Wyant worked with Charlestons Walled City Task Force, halting construction for the careful excavation of the artifact.

With the permission of the historians, Wyant is planning to have an excavated piece of the historic wall put on a pedestal in the lobby of the hotel, allowing guests to see and photograph this significant Charleston artifact.

VALET PARKING

Recognizing that parking in the historic area is at a premium, Mr. Wyant researched alternative methods to provide room for guests’ vehicles.  He selected Parkmatic Car Parking Systems, which is installing a unique 30-car valet service utilizing a customized, state-of-the-art automated robotic parking system, which allows for parking 27 cars.

    • 27 cars three deep
    • Three cars wide and three cars tall
    • In a space about 25 feet wide, 60 feet deep and 21 feet tall
    • 3 additional cars will be parked in a smaller stacking system nearby
