Brookgreen Gardens Unveils New Information Center

Published

on

Brookgreen Gardens, a national historic landmark, has opened a new information center to provide easier access for general information and ticket and membership purchases. The Gardener’s Cottage, located near the Highway 17 entrance to the gardens, is accessible to the public and will allow visitors to get a general understanding of Brookgreen before purchasing a ticket.

“An information center close to the highway has always been part of our master plan,” President and CEO of Brookgreen Gardens, Page Kiniry, said. “Restoring this 1930’s bungalow to have a new purpose was important to us as we strive to conserve history from all aspects of Brookgreen’s past. We’re excited for our visitors to have a more easily accessible information hub.”

Built in 1931, the building was originally the residence of Brookgreen’s night watchman. The house was moved near Brookgreen’s entrance in the mid-1960’s where it continued to serve as a residence for various Brookgreen staff members and their families. For the last ten years, the building served as the home to all plant records as well as offices for the horticulture staff.

Brookgreen Gardens will hold a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 10 am on March 10th to coincide with 3-in-1 Day, the anniversary of Anna and Archer Huntington’s birthdays and wedding anniversary.
