Published

UPDATE: 3/14/20This event has been postponed. A new date is being worked on.

-Original Post Below-

On Sunday, March 15th, a local organization called Lowcountry Bald will once again raise money for childhood cancer research with the St. Baldrick’s Foundation, the largest private funder for childhood cancer research. MUSC is a beneficiary of grants from the organization.

The event will be held at Butcher & the Boar in Mount Pleasant (730 Coleman Boulevard) starting at 2 pm.

Volunteers (“shavees”) raise money by agreeing to have their heads shaved bald at a public event to stand in solidarity with children that lose their hair during cancer treatment. For their brave sacrifice, shavees ask their friends and families for donations. Shavees sometimes form teams to involve friends and co-workers in raising money together.

Interested shavees and volunteers can click here for more information.

The St. Baldrick’s Foundation funds the most promising cancer research just for kids. St. Baldrick s is the top private funder of childhood cancer research grants in the U.S. and around the world. Each year, thousands of volunteers worldwide organize fundraisers, such as our signature head-shaving events, to raise money to support life-saving childhood cancer research. St. Baldrick’s events are the largest volunteer-powered fundraising opportunity benefiting pediatric cancer research.
