Press Release
For two decades now, the Charleston Horticultural Society (CHS Hort) has been a leading force in providing gardening and horticultural education to the people of the Lowcountry. Through its many programs including a monthly lecture series, seasonal workshops, advanced education programs for adults, docent training course, garden tours and a new CHS Hort Film Series, the non-profit organization continues to find new ways of growing its outreach to the community.
One hallmark of the organization is Plantasia, the annual garden festival and plant sale. Plantasia has grown into one of the southeast’s most popular garden event destinations, seeing 2,500 annually. Held this year on Saturday, March 28th, the free-to-the-public event features a vast array of both cutting-edge and tried and true favorite plants along with the hottest new garden gadgets. Local farmers with fresh produce, unique garden vendors, children’s activities and a large variety of food trucks are all part of the day-long festivities. Returning this year, just in time for Easter, are the popular bunny topiaries which were a featured sell-out product last year.
In addition to the free event on Saturday, CHS Hort will host a 20th Anniversary Preview Party the evening before on Friday, March 27th. This ticketed event allows those in attendance first access to all the plants, garden items, and other offerings before Saturday’s big sale. Attendees will enjoy catered food and drinks including beer provided by Island Coastal Lager and Rusty Bull Brewing Co. French Master Chef Nico Romo of NICO will be on hand with his famous oyster booth for guests along with a specialty 20th Anniversary cocktail provided by Dixie Vodka. This year’s party, always one of the spring’s hottest tickets, will celebrate the history of the organization and honor the group’s original founders, many who will be in attendance that night. It’s a celebration with something for everyone with tickets on sale now at chashortsoc.org/plantasia-eve-party.
