Dorchester County Maintains OPCON 2, Closely Monitoring COVID-19

The following is a press release from Dorchester County:

At the present time, there are no confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Dorchester County. County public safety officials have developed specific protocols for dispatch and response operations for medical calls involving illness.

Dorchester County is closely monitoring the development of cases throughout the state and will continue to communicate with emergency management and public health officials at the local and state levels.

Elections

The Dorchester County Board of Elections and Voter Registration Office remains open for candidate filing.

Any candidate seeking a political party’s nomination for any office in the 2020 General Election must file with the appropriate county board of voter registration & elections or the South Carolina Election Commission during the filing period.

Filing closes at noon on Monday, March 30. Candidates may file at the Dorchester County Board of Voter Registration and Elections office located at 201 Johnston Street, St. George, SC 29477, Monday – Friday, 8:30 AM – 5:00 PM.

Note: The Building is closed to the public as a precautionary measure for COVID-19. Upon arrival, candidates should call the Elections office at (843) 563-0132 to gain entry to the building. Please visit the Dorchester County website for more information.

Dorchester County Facilities

All Dorchester County Administrative Offices are closed to the public. All offices are available by phone and email, during normal business hours.

All Dorchester County Convenience Sites and Courts remain open. More information on court operations is available on the county website.

Rosebrock Park remains open; however, the bathroom facilities are closed until further notice.

Register of Deeds

At the direction of the County Administrator and in the interest of public health, the Dorchester County Register of Deeds (ROD) office is closed to the public, until further notice. We realize that the impacts of this closure are far reaching. The ROD office encourages submitters to continue to submit documents via E-File and by US mail. The ROD office is not accepting personal delivery of documents.

The following is a list of Dorchester County’s current E File vendors. Real Estate closing professionals are encouraged to contact any of the vendors listed below to establish an account so that E-filing is possible.

Dorchester County Library

All Dorchester County Library facilities are closed until Tuesday, March 31. The Library will evaluate the reinstatement of services prior to March 31.

Book returns are also closed. For patrons who have already borrowed library materials, we are extending loan periods during this time. Holds will still be available to patrons for 7 days after the Library reopens. No late fees will be assessed while the Library is closed.

All electronic resources and downloadable materials will be available with your library card through the library website.

Wi-Fi services will be available 24 hours per day directly outside Library buildings.

Online Services

Dorchester County Council has waived convenience fees for certain online transactions beginning, today, Tuesday, March 17 – Tuesday, March 31, 2020.

The waiver includes convenience fees for the following online payments/services:

    • Property Taxes
    • Dorchester County Water & Sewer transactions
    • Building Permits
    • Permit Reviews
    • Encroachment Permits
    • Business Licenses
    • Hospitality Tax Payments

Online payments for traffic citations and all other associate court fees and programs are provided on a state level. Dorchester County Council cannot waive those fees.

Online Vehicle Registration

As part of Dorchester County’s efforts to place County services at our residents’ fingertips, thus elevating travel time, and in-person office visit. Residents can now register their vehicles online.

After the form has been properly submitted and the tax bill is created, it will take an additional 24-hours for the system to update. At that time the personal property taxes for the vehicle can be paid to the Dorchester County Treasurer’s Office in one of the following ways:

    • Online, note all convenience fees have been waived until March 31, 2020
    • By Mail to the Dorchester County Treasurer’s Office
    • Dropbox at the St. George or Summerville Treasurer’s Office

All County offices are currently closed to the public in an effort to reduce the spread of COVID-19. However, both the Auditor’s Office and the Treasurer’s Office are available by phone and email during normal business hours. More information is available on the county website.
