Downtown Apartment Communities Cheer for First Responders Fighting COVID-19

As the sun set over the Ashley River on Friday night, residents of the brand new 10 WestEdge highrise community located in Charleston’s WestEdge neighborhood opened their windows, stepped outside onto their balconies and loudly applauded the first responders and healthcare workers who are fearlessly battling COVID-19.

Neighboring apartment community Caroline also joined in on the rally by banging pots, blowing whistles and applauding everyone who is on the frontline including workers from the neighboring Publix grocery store located on the ground level of 10 WestEdge, to truck drivers and EMTs.

Just before 7 pm on Friday night residents stepped outside to cheer and applaud local healthcare workers with the hopes that their sounds may carry to nearby MUSC workers changing shifts.

Residents of 10 WestEdge and Caroline wanted to honor and encourage everyone who is continuing to help keep us safe.

Both communities plan to continue this show of support and unity every night at 6:30 pm.

The 10 WestEdge and Caroline’s rally echoed similar efforts that have been seen in Midtown, Atlanta. The Atlanta, Georgia efforts were originally inspired by a viral video of Italians singing from their balconies.
