Businessman Sam Skardon (right) ended Q1 with $106,993 on hand in his bid to represent State Senate District 41. Skardon surpassed his fundraising haul from last quarter, bringing his total raised to $125,021 from more than 800 contributions.

Skardon has not taken any money from PACs or special interests. He has outraised his Democratic Primary opponent by almost 1,000 to 1, and continues to outpace the Republican incumbent.

Skardon was raised in Charleston. He served as an aide to Civil Rights Leader, and US Congressman, John Lewis. After earning an M.B.A. from Georgetown University, he returned to home to serve as the Director of One Region, Charleston’s regional strategy for sustainable and inclusive prosperity. Skardon now works at a community development finance institution focused on empowering small businesses and disadvantaged communities.

“I am grateful for the overwhelming support we have seen since launching our campaign,” said Sam Skardon. “Right now, we are focused on supporting our community through this trying time. Our campaign will continue to show the type of leadership that this district, and all of South Carolina, deserves.”

“The Lowcountry needs leaders who have a vision for what our state can be. In the midst of this crisis, people of all political backgrounds came together to support Sam and show their desire for real leadership,” said Matthew Miller, Deputy Campaign Manager, of the Skardon campaign. “Sam’s long history of working in our community, supporting local businesses, and fighting for an agenda that works for every South Carolinian is exactly what District 41 is asking for.”

Senate District 41, which includes portions of James Island, Johns Island, West Ashley, North Charleston, and Summerville is expected to be one of the most competitive state legislative races in South Carolina this year. It is currently represented by a Republican but voted for Democrats James Smith and Joe Cunningham by 7% and 15%, respectively, in 2018.
