Baby Otters Make their Debut at Brookgreen Gardens
The outdoor spaces at Brookgreen Gardens, including their Lowcountry Zoo, remain open during COVID-19 as an escape for those looking to get outside and get some exercise during the COVID-19 mandates.
Beginning this past Friday, visitors to the Lowcountry Zoo can now watch three new baby otters in their natural habitat. Brookgreen welcomed the North American River Otters in late January. Since then, Brookgreen’s zookeepers have been treating the animals and monitoring their health. As the animals now know how to swim, they have joined the other otters in the zoo’s exhibit. The Lowcountry Zoo has also begun virtually showcasing its animals on Facebook Live every Wednesday at 2 pm. More than 6,000 people tuned in for the first virtual “Meet the Animals” held on April 15th.
Brookgreen Gardens and the Lowcountry Zoo are continuing to abide by all local, state and federal guidelines.
