Charleston County Government to Follow Governor Henry McMaster’s Executive Order

Charleston County Government will follow the latest Executive Order from South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster. On Monday, Governor McMaster announced changes to public beach access and a modification to operating hours for non-essential businesses. Businesses in unincorporated Charleston County are encouraged to follow the Governor’s order if they feel safe to reopen.

“We have followed the lead of Governor McMaster every step of the way through this pandemic,” said County Council Chairman Elliott Summey. “It’s important to maintain a unified approach to handling this situation in the best interest of our citizens.”

At noon today, the Governor rescinded the order that closed public beach access points, piers, docks and wharfs. Governor McMaster is also allowing some non-essential stores including department stores, flea markets, florists, furniture stores, and other retail stores to reopen under occupancy guidelines to allow social distancing.

Charleston County leaders continue to advise citizens to practice safe social distancing until further notice. Health officials remind citizens to wear masks while in public and adhere to regular hand washing to prevent transmission of the coronavirus.
