Going Places Raising Money to Provide a Disabled Student with a Special Bike
On Tuesday, May 5th, local nonprofit Going Places is participating in #GivingTuesdayNow, a global day of unity and giving. #GivingTuesdayNow is marked as a new day where we can still show social connection and come together on behalf of our communities even while practicing physical distancing.
Going Places hopes to raise $1,000 to purchase a wheelchair handbike that is needed for one special needs 2nd grader that attends Stono Park Elementary, one of the two student bodies the nonprofit will be surprising with bikes this fall/early winter (rescheduled bike reveal that was supposed to be this May).
The nonprofit says they worked diligently with the child’s occupational therapist and The Amtryke Adaptive Tricycle Program whose goal is to provide people who benefit from their trykes with all the classic advantages of riding a bike.
Going Place also announced that fellow generous nonprofit, I Got Legs, has pledged to match the first $250 raised for the wheelchair hand bike. PLUS, GoFundMe has agreed to match the $1,000 raised by the first 300 campaigns to reach $1,000.
These matches would not only allow Going Places to pay for the wheelchair hand bike, but also provide them with the needed extra funds to support their “give a bike. give joy.” program.
