PSA: Jury Duty Scams Have Resurfaced

Published

on

The Charleston County Sheriff’s Office (CCSO) warns citizens to be aware that any phone call from a subject claiming to be law enforcement demanding payment over the phone is a scam.

Many citizens are aware of the jury duty scams that have been prevalent for quite some time in which a scammer, via telephone, claims to be a law enforcement officer collecting fines from citizens that have allegedly missed jury duty. The CCSO has received information that the scam artists are again making their rounds.  Fortunately, the latest attempt did not result in a financial loss.

Additionally, CCSO wants to remind citizens that there was a past incident in which the culprit sent a fake court document via email to bolster their “missed jury duty” phone call. The public needs to be aware that those documents are also false. The fake documents that were previously sent to an intended victim can be seen here.

Citizens should contact their local agency of jurisdiction if they have been the victim of a scam.
