Just Be You Partners with Darius Rucker and Musicians on Call For Performance for MUSC Children’s Hospital

Just Be You, a local non-profit, has partnered with Musicians On Call and Darius Rucker to bring a special musical performance to the patients, families, and staff of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital.

In response to stricter social distancing measures for both patients and doctors, the organization said it was important for them to offer a socially responsible way to bring some love and entertainment into the hospital. Rucker performed three songs from his home that was broadcasted live bedside of the patients, that will be included in the Musicians On Call “Healing Through Music” series.

“As a volunteer for Musicians on Call in New York City in 1999,I was able to see firsthand the healing power music,” Beth Rucker, founder of Just Be You, said. “It was such a special moment for Just Be You to be able to partner with this amazing organization and help spread some joy to my hometown of Charleston.”

During these uncertain times, Just Be You said they will continue to find special ways to bring love and healing into the community; to continue its mission to build teens confidence through self-compassion and self-love.

“We are grateful for all that Just Be You and the Rucker family has done for the children’s hospital,” Wanda Bazemore, Associate Director of Development & Director of Major Events of the MUSC Shawn Jenkins Children’s Hospital, said. “It was a really special day for both the kids and care team members.”

NBC’s TODAY is helping Musicians On Call kick off their “Healing Through Music” series supported by Hyundai Hope on Wheels. On Wednesday, TODAY spoke with Rucker about his performance. You can see the clip below.
