Charleston to Participate in National Day of Prayer and Remembrance for 100,000 Americans Lost to COVID-19

As a part of the United States Conference of Mayors National Day of Prayer and Remembrance, Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg and area clergy will hold a Day of Prayer and Remembrance ceremony honoring the more than 100,000 American lives lost to the COVID-19 pandemic at 12 pm on Monday, June 1, 2020 in Washington Square, located behind City Hall at 80 Broad Street.

During the ceremony, Mayor Tecklenburg will issue a proclamation on behalf of the city of Charleston and each of the eight clergy will deliver a prayer. The ceremony will also feature a performance by international operatic tenor Harold Meers, who serves as General Director of the Charleston Opera Theater. In accordance with the mayor’s proclamation on Monday, the flag atop City Hall will be flown at half-staff to honor the COVID-19 victims.

The ceremony will be livestreamed at www.facebook.com/CityCharleston.

Attendees are asked to practice safe social distancing during this event.
