Braised in the South Preparing to Open Restaurant on Johns Island

Braised in the South, a Lowcountry food truck and winners of Food Network’s The Great Food Truck Race (Season 8), is planning to open a brick and mortar location on Johns Island this summer.

The restaurant intends to officially open its doors at 3338 Maybank Highway in August. It will be open for lunch and dinner and will serve up a selection of sandwiches, soft serve ice cream, and BBQ food truck favorites including its popular smoked wings, totchos, and pork mac and cheese.

Owners Steve Klatt and Brandon Lapp said they are both excited to add a family-friendly place to the area.

“Brandon and I both have little kids and we wanted to open a place where the food is great, gets to you quickly, and has a great environment for the whole family at a reasonable price on Johns Island — a place we both call home” Klatt said.

While the Braised in the South (BITS) Food Truck will continue to serve it’s Southern BBQ on four wheels across the area, the owners said the standalone restaurant was the obvious next step to grow the brand, which gained its traction after being crowned the champs on national television back in 2017.

“We love the food truck and love having people track us down to eat our BBQ, but now we want to make it easier to get their favorites from us,” Lapp said. “We love what we do and feel this is the best way to continue to grow our BITS brand.”

The restaurant will be walk-up style with an outdoor patio, picnic tables, misting fans, and a large pecan tree. There will also be a separate window just for ice cream.

“This city has been amazing to us – from Johns Island to Summerville – we have met some incredible people that have shown us incredible support,” Klatt said. “We can’t thank them enough for allowing us to do what we love everyday and we look forward to seeing them at the new spot this summer!”
