Cunningham Announces Winner and Runners-Up of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition

Today, Rep. Joe Cunningham announced the winner and runners-up of the 2020 Congressional Art Competition in South Carolina’s First Congressional District. The Congressional Institute sponsors a nationwide high school art competition every single year, which encourages students to submit art to represent their district in the halls of Congress.  Since the first Congressional Art competition in 1982, more than 650,000 high school students have participated.

The first place winner this year is David Loa Saldana, a senior at Cane Bay High School, whose submission, ‘Corozon de Nopal,’ will be displayed in the United States Capitol. The two runners-up are ‘The Sisters,’ by Alyssia Scaggs and ‘Unspeakable’ by Lillian Rush. They will hang in the district’s Beaufort and Mount Pleasant Offices.

“I’d like to congratulate David, Alyssia, Lillian and all the students who participated in our first Congressional Art Competition,” Rep. Joe Cunningham said. “I’m honored to have the chance to recognize our talented, young Lowcountry artists and proud to represent such a creative community in Congress. I look forward to proudly displaying their incredible artwork in my district offices and seeing David’s work on my way to the House floor for votes.”
