Holy City Magic Closes Down Due to “Government Bureaucracy”

Holy City Magic, Charleston’s only magic theater and bar, last week announced on social media that the venue would be closing for good.

In a statement posted to Facebook,, owner Howard Blackwell said, “Let me be clear, we are not closing because of COVID-19, we are closing because of government bureaucracy and the disproportionate way the law is being enforced. Bars across the state can host live entertainment. Our performers can literally walk across the street, and perform their shows, but not in our facility.”

Blackwell said he will do everything in his power to bring Holy City Magic back to the Lowcountry once things get back to normal. You can see his full statement below.
