Skardon Has Record Setting Quarter, Leads Cash-On-Hand Race, and Releases Good Governance Plan

Businessman and Democratic nominee for State Senate District 41, Sam Skardon, last week had a series of wins, highlighted by another record setting fundraising quarter. 

On Friday, Skardon released his 2020 Q2 fundraising report showing $51,944 from 448 contributors. This is his highest quarterly total to date, and the third time in four quarters that the first-time candidate has outraised the incumbent. The haul brings Skardon’s total raised to $176,965. And as he promised in the beginning of his campaign, he was able to do this with zero money from PACs.

Skardon outraised current District 41 State Senator, Republican Sandy Senn, this quarter by $2,500 and leads the cash-on-hand race between the two candidates by nearly $7,000.

More comparisons of the two finance report totals: 

• Skardon has nearly 3x more total contributions: 1,294 to 457
• Skardon has more than 8x the number of contributions under $100: 736 to 86
• Skardon has received $0 in PAC Contributions: Senn has received $33,199 from PACs and another $75,460 from corporate entities.

Finally, Skardon released his Good Governance Plan this past Thursday, which includes a commitment to not accepting donations from PACs or corporations with business before the legislature, not allowing elected officials to receive government contracts, and creating a system that allows for full transparency of relationships between elected officials and lobbyists.

“The most important thing a government can do for its citizens is ensure an honest and trustworthy process for leading our state and making progress on the most important issues. Unfortunately, South Carolina has failed at that for too long,” said Skardon.

“Our grassroots campaign is leading by example and providing a clear choice for District 41 residents to choose a State Senator who is committed to ending the culture of corruption in Columbia. That’s how we will bring true change to South Carolina.”

The 41st District is one of the most competitive State Senate races in South Carolina. The district covers portions of James Island, West Ashley, Johns Island, North Charleston, and Summerville. In 2018, Democratic gubernatorial candidate James Smith received 53% of the vote in the district, and current U.S. Congressman Joe Cunningham received 57%.
