We Are Family to Host Virtual Book Talk with Alok Vaid-Menon
We Are Family will host a virtual book talk with internationally-renowned, gender non-conforming writer and artist Alok Vaid-Menon (they/them) on Friday, July 17th at 2 pm as part of the organization’s Instagram Live series, “Couch Connections.”
Couch Connections was launched in March 2020 to foster online connections amid the COVID-19 pandemic because social isolation can have major repercussions, particularly for our trans and queer communities. Every Friday, We Are Family staff checks in with community members in real-time and talks candidly with guests about topics uniquely affecting the LGBTQI+ community.
This week’s episode will feature a live discussion with Alok Vaid-Menon about their new book, Beyond the Gender Binary, and the nationwide effort they’ve led to provide free copies of the book to LGBTQI+ youth. The conversation will be moderated by We Are Family’s Executive Director Nijeeah Richardson (they/them and she/her) and youth member Eli Bundy (they/them).
In partnership with Alok, We Are Family will be giving away 50 books to local LGBTQI+ and ally youth. Youth may secure their free copy by filling out this form.
