Charleston Battery Resumes 2020 Season on Sunday
The Charleston Battery makes its long awaited return this Sunday, July 19th, as they host regional foe Birmingham Legion FC at 8 pm in Mt. Pleasant. The Battery resume a reformatted 2020 Season with one win on the books after the March 8th victory over Atlanta United 2 before the season was postponed due to the Coronavirus pandemic.
The Battery continues to work with local and state officials on plans for potentially allowing fan attendance at future matches. At this time, matches at the new Patriots Point stadium will be played behind closed doors. The safety of players, staff and fans remains a top priority. Fans will continue to be able to watch every match on the ESPN+ streaming platform.
This will be the third meeting ever between Charleston and Birmingham with the Battery having a 1-0-1 record advantage. Birmingham comes to Charleston hot off a 3-0 smashing against Memphis 901 FC at home on Wednesday night. Their season opening win puts Birmingham atop the standings for their regional Group G.
The Battery, meanwhile, look to keep pace within their own regional group after Tampa Bay Rowdies notched a win against Atlanta last weekend, collecting 3 points and sole lead of Group H.
In the reformatted 2020 Season, Charleston Battery will face Group H rivals Tampa Bay, Atlanta and Miami 4 times each with the top two teams from each regional group advancing to a 16-team playoff bracket in October.
