Marine Corp Veteran Shifts Focus Amid Pandemic to Holy City Drive In Series
Robert M. Patterson, owner and operator of Special Ops Events (and sister brands Top Shelf Catering Company and Bacon Station of Charleston) is no stranger to pivoting in business, and as the limitations created by COVID19 were extended throughout the spring, Patterson knew it was time to shift is focus once again.
Typically, Patterson, a United States Marine Corps Veteran, and his team would be traveling throughout the Southeast this time of year, but as of March, his business came to a screeching halt.
“I couldn’t sit back and wait for a solution to be given to me for my business, for my employees, or for the people of my community,” Patterson said. “So after much prayer, deliberation and the support of my team, I decided to create a revenue generating opportunity for both Patriots Point Maritime Museum, myself, and other local business owners who have been impacted by this pandemic. An opportunity that is compliant of all CDC recommended guidelines and provides a sliver of normalcy for the folks who really need it from the safety of their vehicles.”
That opportunity was the Holy City Drive In series, which has been running since June. Patterson has been able to employ his entire staff, pay his overhead expenses of his catering and special events operations, while also giving back to his community.
Patterson is also an author and has worked in the hospitality industry for twenty years.
