Press Release

Businessman Sam Skardon, the Democratic nominee for SC Senate District 41 (Charleston and Dorchester counties) called on members of the South Carolina State Senate to address voter safety before the scheduled September 15th session in Columbia.

“With only slightly more than three months until the November election, our state has failed to do anything to make voting this fall more fair, safe, and secure amid this pandemic,” Skardon said. “There must be immediate action taken to ensure voters can vote by mail or in-person safely, easily, and efficiently in the middle of a public health crisis.”

“As our country mourns the loss of one of it’s great champions of voting rights, my former boss and friend Rep. John Lewis, we should honor him by making voting safe and accessible for everyone,” Skardon continued. “Waiting until the last minute sadly fits an old pattern of confusing voters and creating barriers to voter participation that will inevitably lead to fewer votes. Make no mistake. It is a form of voter suppression.”

“Our State Senators, including our own in District 41, must call on Senate President Harvey Peeler to address this issue immediately so that all South Carolinians know they’ll have safe, secure, and convenient options to exercise their right to vote this fall.”
