Press Release

President Trump today signed into law the Great American Outdoors Act, bipartisan legislation Rep. Joe Cunningham introduced in the House and passed with broad bipartisan support. The Great American Outdoors Act permanently and fully funds the Land and Water Conservation Fund (LWCF) and addresses priority repair needs in our national parks and other land management agencies.

The Great American Outdoors Act has been called the most significant conservation legislation in decades and Cunningham’s efforts have earned praise from conservation groups in the Lowcountry and across the nation.

“Now more than ever, South Carolina families are appreciating the ease of access to the great outdoors that living in the Lowcountry provides as they’ve turned to our plentiful green spaces to cope during the coronavirus pandemic,” said Rep. Joe Cunningham. “As we continue to recover from COVID-19, this legislation will provide new jobs, protect recreational access, preserve historic sites, and restore aging national park and public land infrastructure. In this current climate of division and discord, the Great American Outdoors Act is exemplary of the fact that Republicans and Democrats can still come together to pursue common sense solutions, do right by our public lands, and keep our word. I will continue to work with President Trump and members of both parties to deliver results for the Lowcountry.”
