Why Golden Slipper Day isn’t Just About the Races

Published

Golden Slipper Day, also often referred to as the Golden Slipper Stakes, is arguably the highlight of the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. This critically acclaimed Carnival traditionally takes place between March and April of each year. While it certainly draws in plenty of horseracing experts from around the globe, you might be surprised to discover that the event isn’t just about the races. It is also celebrated for its incredible atmosphere, delectable and diverse food selection, and a wide range of refreshing drinks, including cocktails, craft beer, and sparkling wine.

Here’s what Golden Slipper Day 2020 had to offer its guests – and what you are likely to be able to look forward to from the prestigious event next year.

Chandon pop-up bar

Chandon is a sought-after brand within the sparkling wine world. Luckily, you will find it in abundance at Golden Slipper Day, along with many other events at the Sydney Autumn Racing Carnival. The Chandon pop-up bar generally serves up a broad selection of this premium sparkling wine from Napa Valley, such as rosé, Bruts, and still wine. Look out for it in the Eats at the Gardens precinct.

Pimm’s

If you love that fruity gin flavour, you will adore Pimm’s in any shape or form. At Golden Slipper Day, you will always be able to enjoy the Pimm’s Horse Float – a stand which makes it easy to celebrate #Pimmsoclock with your nearest and dearest. Cheers to Pimm’s on tap!

Cocktails

No Golden Slipper Day would be complete without a broad array of tasty cocktails. Savour the classic favourites along with a variety of brand-new creations, and a selection of alcoholic slushies.

The Canadian Club Cocktail Cart is your go-to, as is the frozen cocktail bar where you can sip on some chilled concoctions as you soak up the warm Sydney autumn sunshine.

Craft beer

The beer lovers certainly aren’t forgotten about at the Golden Slipper Day event. There are countless craft beer stands to choose from with the Iron Jack Cart being the leading supplier for a few years running. Iron Jack crafts a huge array of craft beer from pale ale to lager and stout; the good news is that every single creation always comes with the brand’s trademark crisp finish. It doesn’t get much more refreshing than that.

Prosecco

Prosecco is a lip-smacking wine reserved for special occasions – and the Golden Slipper Day event is one of those occasions. If you can’t get enough of this bubbling white wine delight, you should be sure to make your way over to the Prosecco bar, which is always stationed trackside so that you can take in the races while you sip.

See? Golden Slipper Day is based on horseracing, but there is so much more to this event than meets the eye. From exceptional live entertainment to the best wine, beer, and cocktails that Sydney has to offer, it is undoubtedly worthwhile booking your tickets ASAP. Remember to do so well in advance – the event is renowned around the globe, and space fills up very quickly indeed. Enjoy!
