2020 Race for The ARK 5K Run/Walk Goes Virtual
The ARK Alzheimer’s Family Support Services announced that its 21st Annual McElveen Race For The ARK–5K run/walk and 1-mile fun run, has been modified to a virtual format. The race will start virtually on August 22nd and last until August 29th, 2020.
Registration is now open and will go until the virtual start date. The race was originally scheduled to take place in historic downtown Summerville on August 22, 2020.
For this virtual run, participants can choose the race course and start time. Participants can run or walk around the neighborhood, favorite park, treadmill or anywhere. Participants should complete the run or walk anytime between the designated dates and should upload their time when their virtual Race For The ARK is complete to be recognized among all registrants. Results and awards will be announced September 14th.
Drive through to pick up race packets on Friday, August 21st from 10 am to 7 pm. Race packet mailing is available for an additional $7, and will begin the week of August 17th, 2020.
COVID-19 has not paused Alzheimer’s from impacting families. Now, more than ever, raising awareness and funds for families living with Alzheimer’s and related dementia is critical. Race proceeds will benefit The ARK in its work providing comprehensive support services to families living with Alzheimer’s or related dementia. The annual event funds programs such as memory screenings, resource fairs, educational workshops, and support groups in Berkeley, Charleston, Colleton, Dorchester, and Orangeburg counties plus respite centers in Harleyville and Summerville.
