Spoleto Festival to Host Livestream from England’s Bristol Old Vic
Following the cancellation of their US tour due to COVID-19, Wise Children, Bristol Old Vic, and Plush Theatricals on Wednesday announced that Emma Rice’s critically acclaimed musical adaptation of Romantics Anonymous will embark on a five-performance “digital tour” to theaters worldwide. Spoleto Festival USA will present a broadcast – performed live at Bristol Old Vic – on September 26th at 4 pm. Tickets are available at spoletousa.org.
In an act of industry solidarity, more than 30 partner theater organizations around the world will sell tickets for various performances and each show will be tailored to audiences in that region. “Doors” open a half-hour before showtime, and there will be “a sprinkle of local flavor added before each stream begins.”

Angélique makes beautiful chocolates, carefully infused with all the emotions that overwhelm her daily life. Jean-René runs a chocolate factory that is running out of steam—rather like his own existence. Their individual journeys melt into a delicate love affair.
Adapted by Emma Rice (The Flying Lovers of Vitebsk, The Red Shoes, Tristan and Yseult) from the French-Belgian film Les Émotifs Anonymes, this tender story is a “musical confection” and “multifaceted gem, chock-full of love, generosity and joy” (The Guardian).
Last seen at the Bristol Old Vic in January, Romantics Anonymous was about to start its US tour when the pandemic struck. Instead of saying goodbye to this delicious musical, Wise Children will stream Romantics Anonymous LIVE from the Bristol Old Vic for one night only in the US! This is living breathing theater, happening in the moment, shared with a live audience.
Following approved sport and film production guidance, each member of the Romantics Anonymous company will be tested for the coronavirus before forming a bubble in Bristol, UK. These measures will ensure the cast and creative team will be able to perform the entire show without social distancing.
