Galpão Gaucho, a Brazilian steakhouse chain from Texas, has opened in downtown Charleston at 167 East Bay Street. The restaurant says they are “inspired by the Gaucho culture and the authentic dining tradition of the Brazilian cowboy. Centuries ago, the gauchos of Brazil formed a culture all their own, complete with a distinctive cuisine and a characteristic love of the land of South America.”

“We’ve always focused on growing fresh food, caring for the livestock and valuing our roots,” Director of Operations Jovani Gava said. “This shows in the food we make and long-held traditions we keep.”

The Galpão Gaucho menu is made up of grilled meats and fresh salads, and offers 17 different cuts of meats, ranging from beef, pork, chicken, lamb, and seafood, which are served tableside by gaucho chefs. The meats are complimented by a salad bar that includes hearts of palm, artichoke hearts, sweet beets, asparagus, imported cheeses, and cured meats. Side dishes like garlic mashed potatoes, caramelized bananas, traditional rice and black beans, and Brazilian cheese bread made with cassava flour are also available. For dessert, patrons can choose from a number of gourmet and house made desserts, which include crème brulee, Brazilian style flan, chocolate molten cake, and papaya cream.

The restaurant‘s bar offers happy hour specials on a variety of wines, cocktails, and beers. The beverage program features full bar service, cocktail offerings, and beer on draft and by the bottle. The hand selected wine list featuring wines from all over the world but with a focus on Napa Valley wineries. The bar area also offers a la carte options featuring meats, salads, and sides from the main menu.

Galpão Gaucho is housed in a 200 year-old building with a large upstairs space that can be used for events and parties with seating up to 300. During the pandemic the restaurant is offering socially-distanced indoor seating, outdoor seating, and takeout.

The restaurant is also serving their Mimosa Brunch from 9:30 am to 1 pm on Saturdays and Sundays featuring live Brazilian music. Patrons can also enjoy live music Saturday evenings from 6 pm to 10 pm.
