YWCA Greater Charleston’s “What Women Bring” Event Goes Virtual, Opens for Registration
In May 2018, YWCA Greater Charleston put on its inaugural What Women Bring event celebrating women in business, community, and culture across South Carolina. The awards lunch and talk show-style panel of top women leaders quickly sold out. The May 2019 edition sold out even more quickly, despite the addition of overflow space.
This year, the event was postponed to October due to the COVID-19 pandemic. It will now be held virtually from 11 am to 1 pm on Thursday, October 1st, 2020, allowing people of all genders to attend without travel time or cost from across South Carolina and beyond.
The event will again be hosted by YWCA Greater Charleston and emceed by WCBD News 2 TV Anchor Octavia Mitchell, who anchors the local NBC programs News 2 Today and News 2 Midday. Her Cool School segments highlight positive programs at schools each week. An Emmy award-winning journalist, she has been a member of the Count on 2 team since 2002, and was recently inducted into The Citadel’s Zucker Family School of Education’s Wall of Fame as well as receiving the Community Tribute honor from the MOJA Arts Festival and receiving the title of “Most Cheerful News Anchor” from the Charleston City Paper, among other accolades.
Women honorees from across eleven different industries will again take the virtual stage to receive their awards and field questions from the audience in a candid and conversational setting. Topics are expected to include gender bias, the glass ceiling, equal pay, succeeding as a woman of color, and more.
This year’s event will feature one key difference: there will be no charge for individual tickets.
Individual registration is open now at www.ywcagc.org/wwb-2020. All are welcome.
