The City of North Charleston on Monday announced that the recently opened North Charleston Aquatic Center will host the 2020 SC High School League (SCHSL) State Swim Meet scheduled for October 10th and October 12th.

This year’s meet will look different than previous events, due to facility capacity restrictions in response to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. To limit potential exposure and minimize crowd size, the event will not be open for spectators and will be held over two days with the Girls’ Meet taking place on Saturday, October 10th and the Boys’ Meet on Monday, October 12th. The meets will be live streamed for spectating through the NFHS Network, details pending.

“We have always envisioned the North Charleston Aquatic Center to sit at the crossroads of aquatics education and world-class athletic competition,” North Charleston Mayor Keith Summey said. “Hosting the SCHSL State Swim Meet brings our vision to fruition.  We look forward to an action-packed competition and wish the swimmers the best of luck.”

“No one is more elated than the entire SCHSL membership to announce the very first of our fall sports championships,” said SCHSL Commissioner Jerome Singleton. “Swim is one of the most popular sports we host, and this year is no exception. We look forward to the sights and sounds of the city and the ambiance of the North Charleston Aquatics Center.”

Located at 8610 Patriot Blvd., the North Charleston Aquatic Center features a 10-lane, 50M competition pool and a separate 8-lane, 25 yard therapy/warm-up pool.  The North Charleston Aquatic Center is open to the public and serves as the home site for DD2’s Ashley Ridge, Fort Dorchester, and Summerville High School swim teams.
