Preservation Society’s Fall Tours Returns in October
Press Release
Now in its 44th year, The Preservation Society’s Fall Tours program has evolved to meet current challenges. Experience Charleston’s stunning architecture and intimate gardens as you stroll through our historic streets and neighborhoods.
The Fall Tours continues to serve as the Society’s foremost annual fundraiser and they invite you to join them and support their work. Extensive measures have been implemented to help ensure the safety of homeowners, volunteers, and guests while providing a rich and unique program.
The tours run from October 8th through November 7th.
Piazzas, Porches & Gardens Tours
These tours take you on informative and entertaining walks along private house piazzas and porches (when permitted) where docents delight and amuse you with tidbits of history and lore. In some instances, guests are invited into the garden to experience some of the finest enchanting private gardens in the historic district.
Curated Garden Tours
These tours are for the garden enthusiast and are led by a landscape architect, garden designer, or professional horticulturist. Visit several private gardens while learning about subjects ranging from Charleston’s rich horticultural heritage to the latest gardening trends.
Curated Hard Hat Tour
Join us for a rare opportunity to see how Charlestonians are coping with rising seas. You will visit a circa 1857, masonry house that is in the process of being elevated 8 feet in the air to a new foundation. Your guide will compare it to a house along the Battery that is preparing for flood waters using more traditional methods.
Photography Walkabout and Workshop
Explore the heart of Charleston to photograph some of the city’s oldest and most picturesque streets and alleys. All levels and cameras welcome.
Morning History Walks and Talks
Experience Charleston’s rich and varied history through certified City of Charleston Guides. Choose from a variety of tour themes, including architecture, Charleston’s history, civil rights, ghost stories and the fascinating people who made Charleston what it is today.
