The Lowcountry Food Bank (LCFB) today announced that it received a $22,112 donation from Crews Subaru to help feed Lowcountry neighbors who struggle with hunger. A check presentation was held at the LCFB on August 26th (right).

“How can you not be moved by the work the Food Bank does every day?” Crews Subaru owner Robert Crews asked. “The need is still double what it was before the pandemic – we hope this helps.”

The $22,122 donation, half from Subaru and half directly from Crews Subaru, has helped create more than 132,000 meals for Lowcountry neighbors who struggle with hunger. According to the LCFB, the overall food insecurity rate in the 10 coastal counties of South Carolina has increased by 58% since the COVID-19 pandemic began in March. The increase in food insecurity for children is even more devastating at 76%, resulting in a total of 75,000 children who do not have consistent access to the nutritious food they need to live healthy, active lives.

“We are thankful to Subaru of America and Crews Subaru of Charleston for helping feed our neighbors in this time of great need,” Brenda Shaw, Chief Development Officer of the LCFB, said. “We look forward to working with Crews again in the future to ensure that our community has access to the food they need to live healthy lives.”
