Berkeley County Library System: Virtual Programs, New Digital Resources & Kajeet Smartspot Devices for Loan

The Berkeley County Library System (BCLS) this week announced several new virtual programs and digital resources and the ability to loan out Kajeet SmartSpots. Get all the details below!

Creating with Canva – A Beginner Course

BCLS will offer virtual one-on-one training sessions of “Creating with Canva – A Beginner Course” for adults interested in creating beginner graphic designs. The instructor, Laurie O’Tool, Marketing/PR Coordinator, has over seven years of graphic design experience and will be instructing each class. Classes will be on Thursdays, October 8, 15, 22 & 29 at 10 am.

Interested participants will be required to create a free Canva.com account before the day of class then Register. Once participants have registered, an email with a Microsoft Teams link will be sent to each student to join the class via Microsoft Teams. Participants may install the app two ways: 1. Using a browser via a PC; or 2. Mobile device app from App/Play Store. An 8.5 x 11 flyer and a Social Media graphic post will be created in each class in real-time with the instructor on Canva.com.

Kajeet SmartSpot (WiFi) Devices for Loan

BCLS has Kajeet SmartSpot (WiFi) devices available for a two-week loan period.  Kajeet devices provide WiFi access with 4G LTE enabled high-speed internet connectivity and are Children’s Internet Protection Act (CIPA) compliant.

Kajeet devices can be used for eLearning, stream education courses, webinars, virtual meetings and other internet uses. All devices will have a daily limit of 5,000 MB and a monthly limit of 30 GB.

Virtual Program SC Vocational Rehabilitation 101: Helping You Win the Employment Game

BCLS, in collaboration with SC Vocational Rehabilitation, will host a virtual program in recognition of National Disability Employment Awareness Month (October) for all adult and youth citizens.

Access to the program will be available October 1-31 on Facebook via premiere video. SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department contact information will also be available at the end of the video.

SC Vocational Rehabilitation Department (SCVRD) prepares and assists eligible South Carolinians with disabilities to achieve and maintain competitive employment. SCVRD provides evaluations, job skills training, and job placement assistance for employment and places special emphasis on assisting job seekers with reaching their full potential.  Please visit SCVRD to learn more about their programs and services.

New Digital Resources

BCLS has added the following digital resources to their website (berkeleylibrarysc.org):

TumbleMath: Targets grades K-6 with subjects from counting, addition, subtraction, multiplication, word problems, geometry, fractions, place value, measurement, probability, division, graphing, finance, time and temperature.

TeenBookCloud: Targets grades 7-12 with a collection of online eBooks, novels and graphic novels!  The collection is provided as a service of the South Carolina State Library for South Carolina residents through December 15, 2020.
