Holy Spokes Offering Free Bike Rides on Election Day
Gotcha Mobility, owner and operator of Holy Spokes bike share in Charleston, announced today its participation in Roll to the Polls, an industry-wide campaign offering free or discounted transportation to voters on election day in partnership with the North American Bikeshare Association (NABSA) and its members. Holy Spokes bike share will offer free bike rides to polling places in Charleston on Election Day, Tuesday, November 3rd.
The company making its bikes completely free to riders to cast their ballots with promo code VOTE2020. Voters can go to ridegotcha.com/rolltothepolls for more details.
Many people wanting to exercise their right to vote lack access to a safe, reliable mode of transportation. In 2016, 3% of Americans cited “transportation problems” as a barrier to voting. 3% is representative of 4.6 million registered voters in 2020. Gotcha, NABSA, and NABSA members want to ensure every voter has the ability to do so.
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Gotcha and NABSA members are encouraging voters to explore alternative methods of voting, including through absentee ballots. However, many states do not accept the ongoing pandemic as a reason for mail-in ballots. In some areas, the deadline for absentee registration has passed. Roll to the Polls connects voters with safe and socially distant modes of transportation to ensure that they are able to exercise their civil right to vote.
“We are excited to join NABSA, a leader in connecting shared micro-mobility providers, to help overcome transportation barriers on election day through Roll to the Polls,” said Max Smith, CEO of Gotcha. “We look forward to helping make every vote count by providing accessible transportation to all.”
