Charleston County Public Works Launches Online Meeting for Main Road Segment C Improvements
Today, Charleston County’s Public Works Department launched an online public meeting regarding Main Road Segment C: Bohicket Road Improvements – Maybank Highway to Betsy Kerrison Parkway. Staff will accept public comments on Segment C through November 12.
Citizens can find the online meeting at https://www.mainroadcorridor.com/segment-c/. Once there, attendees will have the opportunity to learn about the project’s purpose and need, review the proposed alternatives, and provide input. Community feedback will help the project team refine the alternatives and make a recommendation on a preferred alternative.
“This online meeting launch is the kickoff to the public involvement portion of our work on Segment C,” said Sunshine Trakas, the Main Road Corridor project manager. “The project team has spent several months developing the presented alternatives. It is so important to connect with Johns Island residents, business owners, and other important stakeholders throughout the life of this project.”
Charleston County recently completed collecting, modeling, and analyzing traffic data to come up with the proposed alternatives. The project team also coordinated with the Berkeley-Charleston-Dorchester Council of Governments to incorporate the 2020 Charleston Area Transportation Study as part of the research.
Segment C makes up nearly half of the project study area, and is the largest of the three major segments in the Main Road Corridor project. The Main Road Corridor Improvements project was approved as part of the 2016 half-cent Transportation Sales Tax Referendum.
