Press Release

Charleston County’s Public Works Department launched a public comment period and website for the Old Towne District Transportation Improvements project. This project looks to improve mobility along Old Towne Road and Sam Rittenberg Boulevard, which the County considers the “gateway” to West Ashley. The goal of this project is to:

  • Improve the level of service and safety for the travelling public
  • Support the use of mass transit
  • Supply access to existing and future businesses
  • Create walkable, bike-able and connected communities

“Charleston County staff has looked at several options to make improvements to this area of West Ashley,” said Charleston County Council Vice-Chairman Brantley Moody. “Every step of the way, we’ve utilized comments and input from the public to make sure it’s the right decision for the community and I’m looking forward to the next steps in this process.”

Citizens can find the design plans for this project on the new website. A 30-day public input period regarding the proposed improvements begins today and ends November 15th. Please submit comments to the project team via the website on the Contact page. If citizens have any additional questions, please contact Public Works – Transportation at (843) 202-6137.
