Veterans Day in North Charleston, a Tribute to our Veterans

The City of North Charleston will host its annual Veterans Day tribute on Wednesday, November 11th, 2020 from 10 am to 12 pm at the North Charleston Performing Arts Center (PAC). The event features Lt. Colonel Frederick Whittle, USMC (ret).

The city ask veterans and their families to join Mayor Keith Summey and City Council in this special ceremony. All veterans in attendance will be recognized and will receive a specially designed commemorative coin.

Due to COVID-19, pre-registration is required. To reserve your spot, call 843-745-1028 or email cdambaugh@northcharleston.org. Please register no later than November 4, 2020.

Seating will be marked for proper social distancing. Face coverings are required. Hand sanitizer will be available throughout the PAC.

The Department of Defense and the Veterans Day National Committee once again selected North Charleston as a Regional Site for Veterans Day 2020. North Charleston is the only site in the State of South Carolina and has received this designation for ten consecutive years.

About Lieutenant Colonel Frederick J. Whittle, United States Marine Corps (retired)

Lieutenant Colonel Frederick Whittle is the Vice President and Chief Operating Officer for Jupiter Holdings, a family real estate development company responsible for overseeing 350+ employees, a pro-sales lumber company, self-storage warehouses, Blue Water Market convenience stores, carwashes, commercial real estate holdings, hotels, and quick-serve restaurants.

A 1980 graduate of The Citadel, Lt. Col. Whittle entered the Marine Corps in 1980 as an infantry officer and was designated as a naval aviator in 1984, flying in 36 combat missions in the 1991 Persian Gulf War.  He is an Olmsted Scholar and holds a graduate degree from The Fletcher School of Law and Diplomacy at Tufts University.  He retired from the service in 2000.

Lt. Col. Whittle is very active in the community, having served in numerous roles with a variety of civic organizations including the Coastal Carolina Council of the Boys Scouts of America, the Coastal Boys Council, The Exchange Club of Charleston, and the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Trident Area.  He is the Past National President of The Citadel Alumni Association, his Class (Fundraising) Chairman for The Citadel Foundation, and Director of The Citadel Trust.

Lt. Col. Whittle and his wife of 38 years, Susan, are members of St. James Anglican Church on James Island, and have an adopted son, Wilkerson, age 25.
