Charleston County Board of Elections & Voter Registration: What To Expect On Election Day

Election Day is just around the corner with absentee voting by mail and in-person absentee voting already underway. Every registered voter is qualified to vote absentee in the November 3rd General Election. The Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration has all the up-to-date information available to prepare you for what to expect on Election Day.

It is crucial to have your voting plan ready, including when to vote, where to vote and what to bring with you to the polls.

First, make sure your voting registration information is complete and accurate by checking it at chsvotes.com. Then, find your precinct and locate your polling place. Polling places are open from 7 am – 7 pm on November 3rd. If you are in line at 7 pm, you will be allowed to vote. Be sure to bring one of the following valid forms of photo identification: SC Driver’s License, SC Department of Motor Vehicles ID Card, SC Voter Registration Card with photo, Federal Military ID, or US Passport. If you received an absentee ballot in the mail but have decided to vote in person on Election Day, ensure you drop off your absentee ballot at the Charleston County office (4367 Headquarters Road, North Charleston) by 7 pm on November 3rd. The Charleston County Board of Elections and Voter Registration also encourages all voters to bring a mask with them.

After checking in to your polling place, you will be given a paper ballot and directed to an ExpressVote machine. Insert your ballot into the machine, make your selections, review and print your ballot. Then insert your ballot into the ballot scanner, which submits your vote to a locked ballot box. If you are disabled, unable to stand in line to vote, or 65 years or older and unable to enter your polling place without assistance, you may vote outside of the polling place while remaining in your vehicle in the closest parking area.
