Doors to Dream Hosts Youth Development Project at The Pink House
Charleston Mayor John Tecklenburg today hosted a press conference with volunteers, staff, and students of the Charleston-based nonprofit Doors to Dream, as they built a children’s playhouse on the grounds of The Pink House (1551 Mulberry Street).
The completed playhouse will be a 9’ x 8’ structure with a porch and window boxes with flowers, as shown to the right.
Doors to Dream Co-Founders Carey Dunn and Hope Caldwell, and Development Director Sam Clements, put together the project as part of the organization’s mission to involve students in social impact projects throughout the community.
Since its founding in 2016, Doors to Dream has completed more than 15 such projects throughout the Charleston area, and has since expanded its focus to include outreach and mentoring activities with Burke High School students, some of whom will assist with Saturday’s project.
The Pink House was established in 1999 by Rev. Christian King as a nonprofit to provide after school tutorial programs, summer camps, and other youth development activities in the Ardmore Sherwood Forest neighborhood in West Ashley.
