Dr. Kerry Solomon First in Nation to Implant Vivity Lens
Dr. Kerry Solomon (right), world-renowned ophthalmologist and South Carolina’s leading LASIK and laser cataract surgeon, is the first in the country following FDA approval to complete surgery utilizing an AcrySof® IQ Vivity® Extended Range of Vision Intraocular Lens (IOL).
Vivity® is the latest innovation in Alcon’s portfolio of presbyopia-correcting IOLs (PC-IOLs). Many patients that are initially diagnosed with cataracts already have presbyopia (also known as the need for reading glasses). Now with Vivity®, eyesight impacted by both conditions can be addressed with one form of treatment, as well as eliminate the need for glasses after surgery.
“The Vivity® lens is a remarkable advancement for vision technology. For the first time ever, it extends the range of vision without creating halos and rings post-surgery; a side effect associated with all existing multifocal lenses,” said Dr. Kerry Solomon.
Dr. Kerry Solomon was one of the only ophthalmologists in the country to have early access to Vivity® for clinical trials, but broader nationwide availability will begin later this year.
“I take a lot of pride in participating in clinical studies and being the first to bring new technology to the state of South Carolina. I know my patients recognize my commitment to the industry’s advancements and choose our practice for that reason,” said Dr. Kerry Solomon.
While not all patients will be candidates for Vivity®, Dr. Kerry Solomon and his team perform comprehensive cataract evaluations to determine the best IOL option for each patient. As one of the top 1% of ophthalmologists in the world and widely recognized as an industry pioneer, many of the industry leaders seek Dr. Solomon’s opinion on new technology and advancements in the industry. Advanced technology used in ocular surgeries all around the globe are a result of his commitment to research, innovation and development in the field.
