South Carolina is the 2nd Most Vulnerable State to Identity Theft & Fraud
Personal finance website WalletHub this week released its report on 2020’s 2nd Most Vulnerable State to Identity Theft & Fraud and South Carolina was listed as the 2nd most vulnerable in the country. The Palmetto State was ranked as the fifth most vulnerable a year ago.
To determine where Americans are most susceptible to such crimes, WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia across 14 key metrics. The data set ranges from identity-theft complaints per capita to the average loss amount due to fraud.
South Carolina’s Vulnerability to Identity Theft & Fraud (1=Most Vulnerable; 25=Avg.):
- 9th – Identity-Theft Complaints per Capita
- 6th – Avg. Loss Amount Due to Online Identity Theft
- 11th – Fraud & Other Complaints per Capita
- 27th – Median Loss Amount Due to Fraud
- 18th – State Security-Freeze Laws for Minors’ Credit Reports
- 1st – Identity-Theft Passport Program
- 5th – Persons Arrested for Fraud per Capita
