Trident Literacy Association Seeks Nominations for Annual Founder’s Awards

Trident Literacy Association (TLA) has announced a call for nominations for the 2021 Founder’s Awards. Nominations are being accepted now through January 22, 2021. 

The Founder’s Award was inspired by Trident Literacy Association’s founder, Pat Gibson. Pat founded TLA to provide a pathway out of poverty for people and to make the community a better place for everyone. Founder’s Award honorees are women like Pat, who use their platform to elevate other women and our community through philanthropy, business, sports, education, or the arts.

TLA invites community members to nominate an extraordinary woman for this award. Email jgibson@tridentlit.org with the name of the woman you are nominating and why she inspired you to nominate her.

On January 27, 2021, the TLA Board of Directors will announce eight honorees. In years past, TLA celebrated honorees at a signature luncheon. This year, TLA will host a series of four virtual events where honorees will receive their awards and discuss women’s roles in our community. The annual event is celebrated during International Women’s Month to honor our founder and all women worldwide, working towards equity for all. Event tickets and sponsorship opportunities are available by visiting www.tridentlit.org/events.

Since 1972, Trident Literacy Association has served Charleston, Berkeley, and Dorchester Counties as an award-winning education facility for adults. Students have access to a broad array of programs designed to improve literacy skills, increase job readiness, and learn English as a second language so students can obtain their GED and work certifications. Trident Literacy uses a holistic approach to address outside barriers to student success, including a college and career navigator for students when they complete their program and a comprehensive family literacy program.
