Captain’s Comic Expo Returns This Month
Captain’s Comic Expo (CCE), Charleston’s biggest and most popular comic book and pop culture event, returns to Patriot’s Point on February 20th and 21st, 2021.
Here are the details on this year’s event:
The Expo
CCE is a 2-day festival celebrating comic book culture. It includes over 125 tables of comic book dealers from across the southeast, toys from the past 50 years, artists and crafters of many genres, and much more.
Fans and professionals will roam the hall in costumes (often called cosplay) of many styles and genres.
A food truck rodeo will give hungry fans an opportunity to take a break and sample local cuisine.
The Guests
CCE features a number of special guests from the world of art and animation. The event’s special guest for 2021 is Guy Gilchrist, the concept artist for the classic Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1989) series as well as Muppet Babies (1989).
In addition, Universal Studios Gallery artists Bianca Roman-Stumph and Kit Steele have amazing selections of fantasy and adorable creatures. James C Mulligan is a featured artist at The Disney Gallery theme parks. And living legend Vic Carrabotta was an artist for Marvel comics in the 1950’s as well as Disney Studios.
The Events
The Expo will feature special events on Saturday and Sunday. On Saturday, Captain’s will host The Blood Connection from 10-3 accepting blood donations and helping to raise money for the Lowcountry Ophan Relief. In addition, the Star Wars 501st will have a cast of camera-ready Star Wars characters on stage and roaming the Expo to interact and take photos will all fans.
Sunday will host “Cosplay LIVE!,” the event’s interactive cosplay experience. They will have screens above the stage showcasing the amazing costumes throughout the Expo. The event will also have their own cosplay pros displaying their favorite projects and helping fans of all skill levels to improve their craft. Come dressed out in your best cosplay, and you may take home a coveted “Radical Cosplay Award” ribbon!
The Safety
CCE says they are “going above and beyond all state and local recommendations for COVID-19 safety.” This includes mandatory facemasks for everyone in the venue, temperature checks, reduced capacity for social distancing, and more. They will have creative cloth masks for sale in the lobby with 100% of proceeds going to charity.
