Drayton Hall Announces List of International Design Award Winners to Appear Virtually at DESIGNTalk 2021
The Drayton Hall Preservation Trust today announced the list of internationally award-winning designers, decorators, architects, and authors appearing in the virtual event DESIGNTalk 2021 on March 18th, 2021 at 6 pm by Zoom.
This event’s topic, “Fascination with an Historic Room,” will be moderated by Architectural Digest Decorative Arts Editor Mitchell Owens and is sponsored by Amelia Handegan Interior Decoration to benefit the preservation of Drayton Hall, a National Trust Historic Site and its on-going archaeological examination dedicated to locating the homes and artifacts of Drayton Hall’s enslaved community.
Presenters include a galaxy of stars of the residential design community including:
- Martyn Lawrence Bullard – Martyn Lawrence Bullard Design
- Michael Diaz-Griffith – Soane Foundation
- Peter Dunham – Peter Dunham Design
- Pieter Estersohn – Pieter Estersohn: Author and Photographer
- Thomas A. Kligerman – Thomas A. Kligerman
- Amy Lau – Amy Lau Design
- Mary McDonald – Mary McDonald Design
- Alex Papachristidis – Alex Papachristidis Interiors
Each presenter has selected an historic room which holds a special fascination for them and will discuss this space for and with the virtual audience.
“An unexpected upside of this past year,” said Carter C. Hudgins, Drayton Hall’s President and CEO, “is that we’ve learned how to pivot our education offerings between virtual and in person events to roaring success internationally. Thousands of viewers have participated in webinars from their homes around the world. Our webinars now enjoy regular attendees from the United States, Europe, South America and Australia.”
Of the design community coming together in DESIGNTalk 2021, Hudgins notes, “Their willingness to jump in and help us achieve answers for history and the descendants is incredibly moving. Without hesitation, the presenters agreed to lend a hand to our initiative. They are presenting a room in DESIGNTalk but for history, their contribution is much greater. We hope everyone will tune in around the world and enjoy this rare summit of modern design talents discussing the work of their historic predecessors. It’s going to be an extraordinary night.”
This event benefits Drayton Hall Preservation Trust, a 501c 3) and contributes to the continuing preservation and research of Drayton Hall in Charleston.
